LIMU Lean: What Happened to the Shakes, and What Is Left

February 8, 2021 · 3 min read · Weight Management · LIMU

This page used to be a review of the LIMU Lean system. It needs updating more than it needs reviewing, because half of the system no longer exists.

The shakes are discontinued

The LIMU Lean meal replacement shakes were discontinued in 2021 by NewAge, which owned the LIMU product lines at the time and which has since consolidated into Partner.Co.

A sales representative told us at the time that the decision came down to overlap: the same company had acquired Slenderiiz, whose PureNourish shake covers the same ground, and it did not want two meal replacement lines competing with each other.

That is the whole story and it is a commercial one, not a safety one or a quality one. People still ask us where to get them. They cannot be got.

What took their place

If a meal replacement shake is what you are after, the Slenderiiz line is where that capability went:

- PureNourish, the base protein shake. - Power Boost and Beauty Boost, which are add-ins rather than standalone meals. - Giving Greens.

We are not going to tell you they are better than the shakes that went away. They are what is available, and the company that made both decided they overlapped.

LIMU Lean Burn is still made

The other half of the system survives. LIMU Lean Burn is a canned drink built on the same seaweed blend as the rest of the LIMU range, sold as something to have in the fridge for the point in the afternoon when a plan starts to slip.

A can of LIMU Lean Burn

That framing is the honest version of the original article's best idea, which was about the moment at the end of a hard day when people abandon whatever they had decided to eat. That moment is real and planning for it is sensible. Whether a canned drink is the right plan is a question about you.

The serving size and full panel are on the product page.

What we removed from this page

We do not publish before-and-after photographs on this page any longer. There were four, and underneath them a sentence asserting that the results shown were typical and then, in the same breath, disclaiming that they were assured.

That asserts a typical result and withdraws it at once. The FTC standard is that describing an outcome means describing one people generally get, and nobody had established what people generally got on this programme. We publish transformation photography in one place, with the conditions stated, and that is explained on the Slenderiiz review.

Also gone: a section arguing that seaweed speeds up weight loss, and a paragraph arguing that your own body is your enemy because it wants to stay overweight. Neither is true and the second is not a kind thing to tell someone.

The part that still holds

Meal replacement works for some people for a dull reason that has nothing to do with seaweed: it removes a decision. A shake with a known calorie count and a decent protein content is one fewer meal to negotiate with yourself about, and for people who find the negotiating is where it goes wrong, that is worth something.

That is as strong a claim as the evidence supports, and it applies to any shake rather than to a particular one.
